Apple Dumplings

By: Cindy

I've been waiting for the apple week patiently and it is finally here.  Normally I would pick chocolate over fruit any day, but when it comes to this recipe it is my very very favorite.  Betty Jo P. brought this apple dessert to a church potluck several years ago and  I fell in love instantly.  It is so easy and doesn't require a lot of ingredients.  I changed the recipe just slightly but I love, love, love this dessert.  You can add some vanilla ice cream and it's even better! It's all about the juices so feel free to add more Mt. Dew to the pan.

Apple Dumplings

2 pkgs crescent rolls
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut
1 stick butter
1 1/2 c sugar
20 oz Mt. Dew or more
1 t cinnamon

Separate dough into triangles and wrap 3 pieces of apple in each triangle.  (I cut the triangles in half and roll them out with a rolling pin so that I get twice as many dumplings.)  Put the dumplings in a 9 x 13 baking dish.  Melt the butter and add the sugar then the Mt. Dew.  Pour this mixture over the dumplings.

Add more Mt. Dew to make it really juicy if you need to.  It does cook down a little and the juice is really good served over the dumpling.  Sprinkle the dumplings with cinnamon.  Bake for 35 minutes at 350.
